I figured that there would be a lot of dog projects entered for the pet challenge so I decided to go with a lizard! Unfortunately our lizard, Hungry Hippo passed away about two months ago. He was a little green anole and the boys miss him. We will probably get another one, but not until daddy is home on a more regular basis and not traveling as much because taking care of a lizard is not mommy's cup of tea so to speak!
The lizard is from the Boys Will Be Boys cartridge cut at 4". I used Colorbok pearlescent and Best Occasions Prismatic papers to piece him together. For the tongue I just cut a thin strip of paper and curled it around my Gypsy stylus. The background papers were all from my scraps! I tore the edges of the yellow paper and then inked it with a lime green ink.
The best thing about participating in all of these challenges was the amount of scraps I used up! The only full sheets of new paper I used were the 3 sheets I used for the scrapbook pages I did. Everything else came from my scrap basket!!!
So... today Parker graduates from elementary school. I have been dreading this day for awhile now. I have found myself shedding tears often, especially throughout this last week. Moving up to junior high is such a big step! I am going to miss seeing him in the halls, or his classroom, or in the lunchroom on my days that I am at the school. It feels like just yesterday that I was walking him through the big double doors at the school and into the kindergarten classroom to meet Mrs. Dreyer for the very first time. Our baby is growing up....
Parker at 3 years old practicing his Prince Charming skills. Great...now I'm crying again! Hope everyone has a wonderful day. I am going to try and get through mine with my water proof mascara.
Loving that lizard's twirly tongue! Colors are great! Super fun card!
ReplyDeleteCute card, love the tongue.
ReplyDeleteAs for moving up to MS, wait until it is time for you baby to move up. I just about had a break down when it was Mia's turn to go to MS. I am so with you though, I know what you are going through. Hang in there and enjoy your summer.
Oh Melissa!!! I hear you loud and clear!!!!! For some of us it is soooooo hard to see our little precious ones growing up. I know I have lived through a high school graduation, getting learner's permits, and my youngest now old enough to go to kindergarten next year!!! (tears welling up now) I am always the mom at the bus stop crying, while the other moms are celebrating!!! The only advice I have is enjoy every minute because it goes soooooooo fast!!! But I know you are already doing that!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Lizard is awesome!!! I think the tongue really makes it along with the colors!!!
Hugs!!!
Sweet Melissa, I completely understand. I'm the crying mom too. I cried when I took each of my kids to kindergarten for the first time. And now I have one going into junior high and one going into high school. OMG! Where has the time gone? They grow up so fast. (Where's my kleenex?)
ReplyDeleteI know it's very hard to let go. No matter how big they get, we still see them as our babies. And that's the hardest part of being a parent is knowing when to step back & start to let go (a little bit at a time) and let our children start to spread their wings. As parents all we can do is raise them to the best of our abilities and pray & hope they've been listening to our words of wisdom. (At some point some of our infinite wisdom seeps into their brains, right?) :)
Finally, all I can say is enjoy each moment, each new phase of their lives. It really is kind of exciting to see them enter a new chapter in their life. It's still scary but also exciting. Thank goodness for my camera and scrapbooking. It's my therapy. It allows me to relive those precious moments as they grow up. That's probably how scrapbooking is for you too.
Take care, Melissa. Big ((hugs)) go out to you. And remember you are not alone. Lots of moms understand. And don't forget to stash some kleenex in your pocket or purse just in case. I just say it's my allergies. :)
Ok, LoVe, lOvE your card but your picture of Parker at 3 yrs. old takes the cake!!!! Sooooo stinkin' cute, Tanner has nothing on him in the cute department!
ReplyDeleteActually, I am shocked at how much Tanner looks like Parker!!!!! Holy cuteness!!!!!
I know, I know, I've already posted a comment but back to that picture of Parker....I showed it to Rob and he agrees!
ReplyDeleteDid I mention the cuteness factor in that picture?? Handsome also comes to mind. Sweet? Oh yeah, that too.
love the lizard! his tongue is so cute. I know how you feel. We've raised our kids and now our grandkids are growing up.. BUT we are raising one grandson and he is entering 2nd grade and is special needs (just high functioning Autism and all related issues) so i am blubbering over accomplishments!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the card Melissa. I have plenty of Wizards if you want some.
ReplyDeleteWow Parker looks so little in that picture. Now stop that or I'm going to be crying right along with you. I can't believe he is going to Middle School next year. I think we need a Family Disney Trip again. :)
Hi Melissa.. I have something for you on my blog. Stop by when you get a chance. Have a great day!!

Cute lizard card -- although I'm terrified of lizards!!! My son would love the card (and the lizards)!!! LOL! He loves and has all kinds of reptiles, so being so frightened of them myself, I wasn't too-too heartbroken to see him and his "pets" leave the nest... ha-ha!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry the kids are missing their pet so! I love animals even those I'm frightened of and hate to think of anything happening to them!
I just love that little lizard, and the tongue on him is perfect! Great job!

I am so glad that I found your blog! I am also a huge Disney fan, and I would actually pretend to be Ariel when I was a kid! :) I live really close to Disneyland, but I have not been lucky enough to go to DisneyWorld (yet). I am now following your blog, and would love for you to check mine out sometime! :)
