Please welcome my Guest Designer for today!

This is Tanner, my 6 year old son who is in the 1st grade.  He is very excited to be a guest designer here on Disney Dreamer Designs today.  For those of you who do not know Tanner, he loves to create and is very artistic!  He loves using Mommy's Cricut and any of my other crafting supplies that he is able to connive me out of.  Tanner is very persuasive and persistent.  Ever heard the phrase "beating a dead horse"?  Well...he invented it!

He wanted me to take a new picture of him this morning for his blog debut so here it is.  He also wanted me to let you know that he is wearing his Michigan Wolverine's football jersey underneath his Detroit Red Wings sweatshirt and that he wanted to wear his Detroit Pistons sweatband with his Detroit Tigers baseball cap, but Mom thought that might just be a wee bit of overkill.  Another thing you should know about Tanner...he is just a little over the top and always makes his presence known!  Ahhhhh..that boy of mine! There is never a dull moment around our house!

Anyways.....we went on a field trip last week to the recycling center.  Not one of Mommy's favorite field trips, but the kids seemed to enjoy it.  Tanner has been extremely diligant keeping track of what can and can not and what should and should not be recycled, especially since our field trip.  Today they are having a spelling test and their bonus word is recycle.  He's got it down pat!

Mr. H decided to give the kids a homework project for the family to work on.  Our assignment was to make an animal using recyclables and provide 5 or 6 facts about the animal you make.  Tanner has been saving empty toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, cans, bottle caps, shoe boxes....all kids of things to use and has changed his mind several times about what he was going to make.  I thought we had it nailed down to a giraffe, but then last week he decided he wanted to make a "pink piggy"!!!

So...we had used this pretzel tub container a few weeks ago to make.....

...this money collection jar for the school auction.  Parker was trying to raise money to get his teacher, Mr. N in a dress!  BTW....we raised the entire $500 for that and on April 11th, he will proudly be parading down our school hallway in a full on Belle gown to Beauty and the Beast playing in the background!  I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am about this!!!!  Since we didn't need this collection jar anymore, we double recycled it and used it to make Tanner's pink piggy!!!

How stinkin' cute is he???  Well, Tanner calls it "her"...I'm guessing because it's pink! lol

He wanted me to provide you with a lot of pictures from different angles, so you could get the total package! lol  We punched a small hole in the bottom of the jar before we did the painting so there would be a place to secure his pipecleaner tail.  The feet are Dixie bathroom cups that Tanner had already used!  The ears and nostrils were cut from my scrap paper and the googly eyes had to be purchased from M's, because I didn't have any in my stash big enough.

Here are the list of facts that we came up with together for him to turn in:
~A full grown pig can drink up to 14 gallons of water a day.

~Pigs are the only mammals other than humans that exist in every part of the world.
~The largest litter of piglets ever born to one mother during a single birth was 34.
~Pigs are the only mammal not to have sweat glands. They must have access to water or mud to cool down during hot weather.
~Pigs are reportedly more intelligent and easier to train than dogs and cats.

Now...to all of your mothers out there...can you even imagine for one single second giving birth to THIRTY-FOUR kids EVER....let alone all at once?

Here is one last picture of Tanner with his pink piggy as we were headed off to school this morning.

He asked if people would be leaving comments and questions for him (dear Lord I think I've created a monster!).  So, if you so feel inclined to leave Tanner a comment or if you have a question for him you would like answered, I promised him I would read each and every one of them to him and that he could have another post later next week following up on answers to any questions you might have.

Thank you to everyone who left such sweet comments for me yesterday.  I am feeling SO much better THANK GOD!  It had to have been just the sinus thing.  One other little issue last night that I have to share since this post is for and about Tanner....  I took some sinus meds and a sleeping pill last night because I knew I had to try and kick this.  Well....around 1:15 AM Tanner busts into my room (in full dramatics) "I can't take it anymore!  I'm so hot!!!!'  As I realized he was there and I was trying to focus my eyes, I could feel myself broke out in a full sweat. Right away I thought "crap, we are both sick".  I figured it was a fever.  Well, then I put my feet down on the floor and even the floor was hot (our bedrooms are upstairs).  I mean HOT....the bedroom was HOT!  So I go downstairs and can hear the furnace just a running....the thermostat had been turned ALL THE WAY UP!  It was a balmy 94 degrees in our house before I got it under control!  NINETY FOUR!!!!!  The thermostat is in our hallway just outside the laundry room and last night I had asked the boys to take clothes downstairs and put them in the hall.  Apparently...someone (pretty sure it was the one holding the pink piggy) got a little throw happy and a piece of clothing must have gotten caught on the thermostat lever.  So that's how my day started!  lol

Leaving to go pick the boys up from school in 1 hour and 45 minutes and then we are headed straight for the airport!!!  It seems like he has been gone forever and I cannot wait to see my husband and have our family reunited.  I hope you all have a wonderful day and a fantastic weekend!

  2. Your pink piggie is fantastic, Tanner! I love all of the different things that you recycled to create her. Maybe you can get your Mom to cut a slit in the top and you can use it as a bank.

Hope your Dad had a safe trip home. I know you all are SO glad to have him back!

    Hugs!

  4. What an enjoyable post. Please tell Tanner he did a great job on his bank, and I do have a question for him. I was wondering how much money he thinks it will hold?
Never mind giving birth to 34, can you imagine nursing and caring for 34 and having them all around your feet all the time!!
Enjoy your weekend with the family all back together.

  11. LOL... Brought tears to my eyes I laughed so hard about the heat!! :)

Tanner, your pig is FANTASTIC!! She's the perfect shade of pink!! I think Jen's idea to turn it into a bank is great (then you'd be recycling it for ANOTHER use, right?)!! Perhaps you could help your mom add some vinyl letters (cut with the Cricut) to spell out your name (or 'college fund' or something) too!! :)

I would like to know... What kind of paint did you use and was it hard to get it to 'stick' to the plastic container?

I really enjoyed your Guest Designer spot, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next time!!
