Disney~Pixar Blog Hop Day 2

Welcome back for Day 2 of the Original Disney~Pixar blog hop! We love that you keep coming back to see what new and exciting things we come up with! Shawn and I are very lucky to have such amazing and talented women who continue to want to be a part of this. You should be arriving here from Shawn's blog Crafty Chics Blog who was the very first stop for the hop today.

If you didn't get a chance to hop through all the projects from yesterday you can head back to Shawn's blog here >>>  Disney~Pixar Blog Hop November Day 1 to do so.

For my project today I decided to make some Mickey shaped chocolate covered Oreos!  These are one of my boys favorite treats from WDW and I had never tried making them before.  Using the Double Stuf Oreos is definitely a necessity (learned from trying to use the originals first), to be able to insert the sucker stick.  The ears are done with Mini Oreos.  Simply pull them apart and scrape off the white stuf and gently insert them into the stuf inside the large Oreo.

These are the Mini Oreos

The Oreos placed together on the sucker stick before adding chocolate.

Now...another thing I learned through trial and error...  dipping the cookies into the chocolate didn't work too good.  I lost many a Mickey ear in the melted chocolate!  lol  I decided that using one of the small Pampered Chef wooden spoons to spoon on the chocolate and kind of swirl it around gently with the back of the spoon was the best solution.  I used Wilton Candy Melts and just placed them inside my glass Pampered Chef measuring bowl and into the microwave.  I melted the candy in 30 second intervals, stirring in between.  It took about a 90 seconds to get it melted to a good consistency in my microwave.  If you try to make these at home I would just recommend checking the chocolate often so you don't end up burning it.

I made sure that my table was covered with wax paper before starting and then used the wax paper to let the cookies completely settle after removing them from the freezer.  I didn't really think things out before I started, because once I got the first Mickey head covered completely in chocolate I just sat there thinking "Now what do I do with it?"  Well....I have a metal Ikea shelf inside my freezer that has little holes in it that worked PERFECTLY for the diameter of the sucker sticks!  So I would cover one Mickey head and then take it to the freezer, stand it up in my Ikea shelf and by the time I finished covering the next Mickey head with chocolate, the chocolate would be set on the one left in the freezer!  Swaped them out and started the process over again!

I used Wilton plastic bags to cover the suckers and then finished them off by tying different Disney colored ribbon, rick rack and bakers twine!

Here is the finished product!  I took them over to my friend Kaye's house the other night as treats for all the kids.  Kaye's  husband Rob, very graciously watched all of our kids (SIX kids ages 2-11) by himself while a group of my girlfriends went out for an early birthday dinner celebration for ME!   It was a wonderful night for us and the Mickey Oreo suckers were a hit with the kids!

Okay...now for my blog candy!  With Christmas right around the corner I thought I would share a Cricut Christmas Village Cartridge with one lucky winner!

In order to be eligible for my blog candy you must be a follower and leave a comment on this post by 11:59 PM EST Monday, November 21, 2011 (My Birthday!!!!!) Winner will be announced on Tuesday, November 22nd. I will use Random Org to draw the winner and they will have one week to contact me and claim their prize.

We also have a GRAND PRIZE for this Blog Hop donated by ContainYa Crafts! You can have YOUR CHOICE of a Scrap'n Tote or a Scrap'n Easel! Each blog in this two day hop has a special letter, and when all of the letters are put together they spell out a secret phrase.

My letter for today is....Y

Once you have stopped at each blog in the hop (both days) and collected all of the letters, simply email the phrase they create to bloghopcontests@gmail.com. All entries must be in by Midnight on Monday, November 21st. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, November 22nd at Crafty Chics Blog .

Now I send you off to Megan at Above Rubies Studio to see what she has waiting for you!  Thanks for hopping with us again and stay tuned for future Disney~Pixar Blog Hops from us!
One last thing before you go...  I would love to have you come back tomorrow to celebrate my birthday with me!!!  I am going to be giving away another Cricut cartridge as birthday present from me to one of my lucky, faithful, followers!  I know that I have been neglecting my blog, as well as all of my blogging friends.  I apologize for that, but my life has been a little hectic these past 11 months.  I'm not sure when things will get back to 'normal' around here, but I sure appreciate you hanging in there with me!  {{{HUGS}}}

These are great. I am going to do these for my cookie swap. Only I will be doing in red and green. Thanks for the idea.

WELL DONE, Melissa!! Clearly you are not only talented (and dedicated to the Mouse!!), but you also have the patience of Job. The first time a cookie fell into the chocolate, I'd have to fish it out, eat it, get sleepy and dreamy, do more, eat more, fall into a deep diabetic coma, and I'd wake up to find my hardened chocolate all over my kitchen and dried on my face.

Imagine it! Sing it: "Imaaaa-gination!" Figment would be proud. Eeek, that's what I should have done -- Honor my favorite guy, Figment!!!

But I digress.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Fondly,
