Parker's lighthouse project

Earlier in the year our oldest had a family assignment for his 4th grade class.  They had to pick a Michigan Lighthouse and do a report and build a replica of it with a working circuit to light it up.  He chose the oldest working lighthouse in Michigan which is located in Port Huron.  Fortunately it was close enough to us that we were able to drive to it during our Christmas break so that he could pose for pictures in front of it and collect more information to use on his report.  This was a very time consuming project, but a lot of fun and we were very happy with the finished product.  We ended up displaying all of the lighthouses at the school Science Fair that we had a couple weeks back.  Parker got a lot of compliments on his lighthouse about how much it looked like the real thing.

How did you make this? Is it cardboard? Paper mache? You did a great job.

Thank you! Actually, it is a styrofoam cone that he cut the top off of. Or initial plan was to cover it with clay, but we tested it with a smaller part of the styrofoam and it cracked all up so we decided to just keep it as the foam and then he carved out little sections of it to make it look like the original where bricks where the white painted bricks were falling out and exposing the original red brick.
